Five Months Pregnant

If you follow my facebook or this blog then I am sure you know that you will know that Patri is pregnany and we will have a son by mid June. We can see the stomach growing almost every day. This is a beautiful period in the pregnancy I think! So of course I had to pick up the camera, use the natural light in our room and snap a few photos. I hope you enjoy them – I think they are beautiful!

I am very proud to announce the opening of our swiss wedding shop: http://www.kissloud.ch.

This is something that Patri and I have been working on for over 1.5 years, and the result is finally here. As a swiss wedding photographer I have been following the local wedding industry quite closely and realised that there was something missing in the swiss market – a single place where people could go to and buy various wedding accessories for their entire wedding day. After doing some research, we realised that there are a lot of different wedding products, and for someone who has never gone through the experience of organizing a wedding, it would be hard to know what exactly one wants and when it is needed during the wedding day. This is why we decided to design the menu different from any other wedding shop out there.

The menu on top walks you through the six stages of a wedding (pre weddding, preparation, ceremony, dinner, party, post wedding). In each stage, we have relevant products. For example, by clicking ‘ceremony’ one will see our ring pillows, biodegradable confetti, bubbles and so on. However, this is not the only way to navigate through the site – one can also use our “shop by” function. It allows to shop by “price”, “color” or “theme”.

We aim to store all our products so we can quickly ship it out – for our personalized stationary, which requires customization, it does take a longer time of course. In any case, the availability of a product can always be seen within the product view.

Now to the exciting stuff – the products! We have some really cool stuff (and this is just the beginning!). To mention a few, our plantable stationary – including save the date cards, wedding invitations, wedding reply cards, place cards, favor tags, favours and thank you cards – is made of biodegradable paper which contains wildflowers seeds. When the guests will plant any of these cards in a pot, a beautiful mix of wildflowers will grow! Even cooler are our menu cards! They contain carrot seeds so if they are planted carrots will grow. Furthermore, our variety of bubbles already seem to be a hit (we had two orders so far and both of them bought bubbles). The other common product in our two orders were the “I DO” stickers that the bride can put under her shoes. As a photographer. I of course love sky lanterns – fun activity with the guests and it can create some great photos! We have also several table decoration items, as well decoration for the venue, like buntings, party signs, cute little vintage pails, etc. Also sweets for the guests, disponsable and polaroid cameras and much more!

Big Personal News

Last year I stopped doing posts which were not related to Photography but every rule has an exception.

This upcoming year is a really big year for me and Patri!

On christmas eve we got engaged (that is big news in itself of course) but we are also expecting a mini-bogucki/demiguel
to join us around 22nd of June, 2012!

As I write this, the baby is the size of an avocado apparently. One can get a lot of good information at babycenter.com.

So let me present the first official photo of the baby (but trust me, there will be many more)

My impressions of Peru & Bolivia

In April 2011 we left our jobs in Switzerland and decided to go and backpack in South America for a few months. Our destination was Peru & Bolivia. They are two of the (financial) poorest countries in South America but at the same time the nature is very rich and breathtaking. It was hard to travel there because the beauty of the countires are such a contrast to the extreme poverty going on.

We started and ended our trip in Lima, Peru. First we went to Machu Picchu which was amazing – I have no idea how they built an entire society in the middle of nowhere on top of a mountain. The fact they used MASSIVE stones made it even more mind blowing. We woke up just before 4am and hiked up to the top – we were dead when we came up. Must have been my hardest hike ever – but the view was our reward and it was worth it! After that we headed towards Copacabana in Bolivia (picture above) and hiked for a few days. Patri burnt herself badly – she still has mark from it and this was 8 months ago. Crazy. Then we went to La Paz which is the capital of Bolivia and there we did the “death road” with mountainbikes. Initially, we were sceptical but this turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. Absolutely amazing – flying downhill with a mountain bike for a few hours, going under small waterfalls on the road and the scenary was wicked! After that, we stayed in some village in the middle of nowhere and had the best french jam ever – during the days we relaxed and took long walks. One day it was so hot when we hiked that I found a waterfall and took a “cold shower” – now, that was life! After our visit in the middle of nowhere we went downwards to Potosi and Sucre. We were going to see some minefields but then did not feel it was morally right – the tourists were wearing protection and the real workers didn’t. Instead, we went hiking in the mountains – there was no one there except Lamas. It was really beautiful! We ended our bolivia trip by travelling to Salar de Uyuni – this was really cool! This involves 3 days of driving in a 4×4 to various landscape location – one of them is the world’s largest salt lake. The final destination was in Chile and this is where we celebrated my 30th birthday. Not a bad way to turn 30 I must say. After the celebration we slowly went back towards Lima.

Anyway, here are some of my impressions of our trip.

HUGE HONOR – Won a prestigous award!

Junebug Weddings is a website in the USA that is very popular and extremely inspirational for thousands of wedding couples. Every year they have a competition where they select the world’s 50 best wedding photos of entire 2011. This year they had close to 5000 entries and I was fortunate to be one of the top 50! This is actually second year running for me – so I am extremely happy about this.

Many of my photography “idols” are amongst the winners – such as Jerry Ghionis, Ben Chrisman, Jonas Peterson (fellow Swede) and Marcus Bell. To make an analogy – it is like seeing your name amongst Tom Hanks, Edward Norton, and Al Pacino in a movie award

The wedding of Mark & Caroline was covered by the great UK wedding ideas magazine. For this article I was working together with Alice and she was super easy to work with. Here is the article that was published in the January 2012 issue. It outlines their proposal, the outfit for the bride and groom, the ceremony itself (which was lovely!), the decor and honeymoon. As a photographer this wedding had a lot of small details which really made it nice to photograph. Enjoy!

50 Favourite Photos of 2011

Wow, 2011 is now reaching its end. What a great year!

I did over 20 weddings in countries like Switzerland, Greek islands (Santorini, Mykonos and Skopelos), France and Kenya. It was also great to shoot weddings which had a different cultural background like indian and greek. By far, the best part of 2011, are the people. It is strange, but after spending 10 hours together during a wedding you do get close to the couple – love it!

In the beginning of year I won an award which I am very proud of – the website Junebug chose the 50 best wedding photos in the world for 2010 and one of my photos was published. A great honor to be mentioned with very known and skillful photographers.

In my last year summary I had a few goals – to go from 100 followers on facebook to a minimum of 500. Today I have 513. Last year I had 68 000 visitors and this year 96 000. Goals for 2012? To shoot a paid commercial job (ideally wedding related). Get 1000 followers on facebook or perhaps focus a bit more on google plus (depends how it grows).

I went through my weddings this year and chose my 50 favourite photos of the year – but it was very hard! Anyway, hope you like them and I wish you a great upcoming new year!

This month seems to be month of “publishing” – this is the 3rd magazine where my work has been published in this month. In total I have been published five time this year. I also know there is one for January 2012.

I worked together with Nicole on this one – and we have been working several times before. She writes in german and I answer in english. It works perfectly! Anyway, their website can be found here: brautmagazin.ch

One of my personal goals this year as a wedding photographer was to get my work published in the two biggest wedding magazines in Switzerland. ‘Swiss Wedding’ Magazine is one of them. It is the first time I am published in this one. I was in touch with their editor Martina which was great to work with. They published the wedding of Laura and Raphael – I totally understand why they chose that wedding. See the photos and you know what I mean.

Wedding Day – Indian Wedding, Kenya

I thought this would be my last post about the 4 day event in Mombasa, Kenya but it will be the second last. However, this is the main post in my opinion. This is from the actual wedding day. It started off by a celebration in the morning (this will be displayed in another post) and then another celebration for the groom – it was great to be part of it. They were all dancing and singing! The groom’s family brought the groom to a meeting point with the parents of the bride. Then there was a small ceremony and ended with a little game – the game was for the mum to pinch the nose of the groom. To show she is still in control See photos below to see what happened.

The ceremony itself was postponed because of the weather – when the sun came out the ceremony started on the beach. The ceremony finished as the sun went down. Perfect timing in other words.

After that there was a small break and the evening celebrations started. Nisha and Ankeet both had a special entrance for the final party (again, see photos ).
